After years of building with both all-solid wood and combinations of solid and veneer, I’ve found that a thoughtful blend of the two offers the best balance of performance, stability, and beauty—especially for consoles and credenzas. It’s a method long favored in iconic mid-century design, where fine veneers allowed for elegant proportions without compromising durability. Many of those original pieces are still in use today.

While solid wood has its place, I choose materials based on what will create the most enduring and visually compelling result. Every Monke Haus piece is crafted from the finest woods and veneers available. Sourced with care. Crafted with purpose. Built to last a lifetime—and beyond.

My standard material selection includes walnut, rosewood, teak, sapele, and rift-cut white oak—available in the Monke Haus sample kit. Other woods, such as mahogany, birch, or maple, may be available upon request, though they are not regularly stocked.

Wood is a natural material, so variations in tone and grain are to be expected. Each piece is unique, with its own character and pattern—no two are ever exactly alike.
